I get too many/too few results when I search. How can I narrow/expand/improve my search?

Answer

Basic Search Techniques

If you get too many or too few results with your initial searches, check the following:

  • Make sure all your terms are spelled correctly. The databases do not have autocorrect, so even simple error can impact results.
  • Search using short keywords and search terms rather than long sentences. For example, search exposure therapy and PTSD rather than can exposure therapy treat PTSD
  • Try using a subject-specific database. For help finding a database, refer to our guide What is All Databases and how do I use it?
